September 27, 2013

Event Information:
Date: Thursday, Oct. 3
Time: 12:15 p.m.
Place: Marquette Law School, Eckstein Hall

The co-chairs of Milwaukee Succeeds, Northwestern Mutual Chairman and CEO John Schlifske, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Chancellor Mike Lovell and Community Volunteer Jackie Herd-Barber, will be the next guests for “On the Issues with Mike Gousha,” Thursday, Oct. 3, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. in Eckstein Hall, 1215 W. Michigan St.

Milwaukee Succeeds is a community-wide collaboration that aims to improve educational outcomes for every child in Milwaukee. Recently, Milwaukee Succeeds released its annual Milestone Report, tracking the progress of students in the city. The results were daunting. Only 15 percent of all third graders were reading at a proficient level.

So how do we change that number and help Milwaukee reach its full potential?

Milwaukee Succeeds was launched two years ago by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, Greater Milwaukee Committee, Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce, Milwaukee Urban League, United Way of Greater Milwaukee and the Helen Bader Foundation. The group’s leaders will provide an update on the initiative and the effort to bring greater academic success to the city’s public, voucher and charter schools.

Gousha, distinguished fellow in law and public policy and an award-winning journalist, continues his “On the Issues” series of provocative and insightful interviews with local and national public officials, journalists and other newsmakers throughout the year. The fall 2013 schedule is also available.

Seating is limited; registration is available online. For those who can’t attend in person, all “On the Issues” events are streamed live at the following website, which also contains a catalog of past guests.
