Photo/Video Opportunities: Sights and sounds of Christmas at Marquette University

MILWAUKEE – Each year, Marquette students, faculty and staff gather to celebrate the Christmas season with Mass, concerts, praise and reflection. To begin the celebration of Advent, the campus community will gather in the Chapel of the Holy Family to bless the university’s Advent wreath Sunday, Dec. 1, at 10 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union, 1442 W. Wisconsin Ave. The wreath will be lit throughout the Advent season and will be on display in the Chapel of the Holy Family.

Other Advent and Christmas events include:

Christmas tree lighting, Monday, Dec. 2
The Marquette University Residence Hall Association will host a tree lighting and blessing, “Igniting Hope: Miracle on Westowne Square” for students, faculty and staff. Rev. Doug Leonhardt, S.J., associate vice president of mission and ministry, and Rev. Daniel Hendrickson, S.J., associate vice provost in the Office of the Provost, will preside over the ceremony, with Christmas carols sung by the Marquette University Liturgical Choir. A reception with light refreshments will follow in the Alumni Memorial Union, Monaghan Ballrooms, with entertainment provided by Marquette’s male a capella group, The Naturals.

Faculty and Staff Chorale Christmas concert, Dec. 3 and Dec. 5
The Faculty and Staff Chorale will present a free Christmas concert featuring Renaissance, modern and traditional carols.

Date:    Tuesday, Dec. 3, and Thursday, Dec. 5
Time:   11:30 a.m.
Place:   Varsity Theatre, 1324 W. Wisconsin Ave.

Advent Lessons and Carols Concert, Dec. 6
The Campus Ministry Music Team will present an Advent Lessons and Carols Concert featuring traditional and modern Christmas carols performed by student musicians.

Place:   Alumni Memorial Union, Chapel of the Holy Family, 1442 W. Wisconsin Ave.

“Under the MistleBow” a capella concert, Dec. 6
Marquette’s all-male, bowtie-wearing a capella group, The Naturals, will present its Christmas concert, “Under the MistleBow,” featuring the Meladies, Marquette’ female a capella group.

Advent morning of reflection at Church of the Gesu, Dec. 7
Church of the Gesu will host an Advent morning of reflection directed by Associate Pastor Rev. John Schlegel, S.J. There is no fee to attend and lunch will be provided.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Mass, Dec. 12
A bilingual Our Lady of Guadalupe Mass will be celebrated in the Alumni Memorial Union, Chapel of the Holy Family. Rev. Jeffrey LaBelle, S.J., rector of the Jesuit Community, will preside.
