Marquette accepting applications for 9th annual Business Plan Competition

November 10, 2010

MILWAUKEE — The Marquette University Kohler Center for Entrepreneurship is accepting submissions for its 2010 Business Plan Competition.

The application deadline, which requires completing an entry form and answering three questions, is Monday, Jan. 10, 2011; however, registration for anyone applying by Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, is free. Those applying after Dec. 6 must pay a $50 registration fee.

At least one member of a team must be a Marquette student, faculty or staff member or an alumnus/a. Registration is available online or by contacting Tina Quealy, assistant director of the Kohler Center, at (414) 288-7337 or tina.quealy@marquette.edu.

“Since 2001, Marquette’s Business Plan Competition has spawned hundreds of business plans with many entrants going on to start successful enterprises,” said Tim Keane, director of the Kohler Center. “One truly unique facet of our competition is that our entrants receive continual feedback from seasoned entrepreneurs, and participate in workshops to help them develop their plans.”

Following the deadline for entries, the submissions will be reviewed by a team of judges. Participants can expect individual feedback throughout the competition from seasoned entrepreneurs and investors. They will also hear from previous participants and be able to share information with each other through networking workshops on business model development, plan refinement and presentation skills, which will be held periodically throughout the competition.

The fully-developed plans will be reviewed by a panel of judges who will select semi-finalists to participate in oral presentations. The winners, who will be announced at the Marquette Business Plan Competition Banquet April 13, 2011, will receive services, such as legal, accounting and public relations assistance. Winners also will be invited to participate in the Governor’s Business Plan Competition. Chuck Templeton, founder of OpenTable.com, will be the keynote speaker at the banquet.

More information on the Business Plan Competition, including profiles of past winners, is available online.
