Nearly 500 Marquette University graduates will be recognized at the Mid-year Commencement on Sunday, Dec. 19, at the U.S. Cellular Arena, 400 W. Kilbourn Ave.
The program will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will feature a keynote address by Dr. Joseph Daniels, professor of economics in the College of Business Administration, as well as remarks from Marquette President Robert A. Wild, S.J., and featured student speaker Jackie Steuter, who is graduating from the J. William and Mary Diederich College of Communication. Graduation events will also include a Baccalaureate Mass at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at the Church of the Gesu, 1145 W. Wisconsin Ave.
Daniels, whose address is titled “An Optimistic View from the Dismal Science,” is the director of Center for Global and Economic Studies at Marquette and is a member of the G8/G20 Research Group at the University of Toronto. He has published several books on the G8 and numerous articles on international money and finance in journals such as the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, the Journal of International Money and Finance, and the Journal of Economics and Business. He has also served as a consultant for a number of private firms and banks and co-authored two textbooks on international economics.
A member of journalism’s honor society, Kappa Tau Alpha, Steuter will graduate with a degree in public relations and a minor in marketing. She has been active on campus, participating in the College of Communication Student Council, Public Relations Student Society of America, and intramural sports, among many other organizations and activities. She has also been a recipient of many scholarships. Off campus, Steuter has volunteered for the AIDS Walk of Wisconsin, and has interned with Cramer-Krasselt and KETV, the ABC affiliate in Omaha, Nebraska.
Steuter graduated from West Point Central Catholic in West Point, Nebraska.
